What began as a discussion within the GBA Seaweed Culture and Marine Biomass, a sub-group of the Focus Area Aquaculture and Marine Bioeconomy in April 2026 has, within just five months, developed into the submission of a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA) proposal.
The proposal brings together researchers from the University of Exeter and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), as well as the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and additional international partners to address key challenges in the development of sustainable seaweed-based bioeconomy solutions.
The initiative highlights the value of the GBA in connecting expertise across institutions and supporting the development of collaborative research activities.
The Seaweed Culture and Marine Biomass group continues to explore opportunities for new partnerships and future activities. Researchers and stakeholders interested in marine biomass, seaweed cultivation and bio-based materials are warmly invited to join upcoming discussions.
